A tale of three princesses
Where does one even start with this incredible story- over the past few years we seem to have accumulated a little herd of elderly grey mare ponies. All the same size, all with big personalities, all with the same story, abandoned for one reason or another.
But these 3 amigos will stay in our minds and our hearts for a lifetime. Introducing- Cassie, Dottie and Faith, three girls from 3 different parts of Ireland, who made their way to us here at HHO, they are older ladies ranging from about 14-17, they were here quite a while but we noticed the three stuck together, where there was one, you would be sure to find the three of them, they happily lived in each others company. When they were not rolling in muck- they had an air of elegance, flowing manes, gentle personalities, almost aging with dignity and a lifetime of stories to tell, with just enough attitude to let us know they were full of their own importance, they affectionately became known as the “princesses” to us here at HHO.
For many months we tried without much success of finding a home for them- we knew for them to have a chance they would have to be split up- who would take on three aging mares?
Not all that long ago, Cassie’s day came- she was adopted to a lovely woman in Germany, We had a little tinge of sadness that the three princesses would become two but none the less we couldn’t contain our excitement that Cassie would finally have a place to call her own, to retire, to live her life out. We were so proud of her as she jumped on the lorry- she had come full circle here at HHO, from Hungry and weary, with her foal and another on the way to a vibrant and healthy pony. And she left.
Less than two months later, Cassie’s adopted family came to us again. Asking just for a pony who had little chance of finding a home, searching for that pony who really needed their help. A gesture that does not happen very often, so we got to thinking maybe Faith or Dottie could join Cassie, afterall it seemed only fitting.
You can imagine the surprise when we got a response- saying, we can’t choose, send both girls.
So as Dottie and Faith make their way to Germany- to join old friends, HHO Cassie, HHO Missy and HHO Little Lola (already placed with this family), we are absolutely thrilled for our girls to be reunited with almost the entirety of their Irish herd. The HHO ladies are taking over a small part of Germany and now headed for a life that we could only imagine for them.
