Thank you Bernadette Ryan for this well written, emotional poem about our most recent emergency call to a severely injured abandoned foal ♥️🌈
We would not be able to continue to attend these emergencies without the help of our faithful supporters donations, thank you for supporting Limerick Animal Welfare as we get through this difficult year together.

"I had no name, within Ireland's shame
I was a 6 to 8 month colt.
Not much hidden, as I was plenty ridden
Even though I longed to bolt.

I was whipped to run my fastest,
On gangly legs, so crudely shod
And my broken leg had borne the brunt
Like a searing burning rod.

Here untended and neglected
Unwanted and in pain
My break became a festering wound
In sun and cold and rain.

I was nearly glad I was forgotten
But my agony became too much
Then kindest people came to me
With the gentlest, softest touch.

I thought that they might hop to ride
My broken little frame.
Humans that I've only known,
As ones who've caused me pain.

But they stroked my broken body
Let me sniff their little hands
They did all they could to save me
But they knew it couldn't be my plans.

So in my last hour, of my little short life,
I knew love, ever so deep
And my broken little body, quietly let go -
And I gently "went to sleep".

Bernadette Ryan.

Hungryhorse Outside

We live for these days, the days where hard work, tears, sadness can be cast aside and our ponies finally find a home of their own. Where they will be loved and cherished, cared for and respected. These are the days that make the dark, stressful days of animal welfare worth it.
Yesterday we had the pleasure of loading 13 of our beautiful ponies on to the lorry and driving them to meet their wonderful new families in the UK and let us tell you it was no easy task post Brexit with all the new restrictions in place. We couldn't be more proud of the hard work, dedication put in by our small team here to make this happen. It took tremendous effort.
But as always and most importantly our ponies have a secure and happy future ahead of them!
Love all our little ones and we'll be looking forward to hearing all about your new adventures and lifes!
