11 Horses on the way to their forever home in Germany

Yesterday brought our last European Transport of 2016, 11 more unwanted and forgotten horses left HHO to find a new life in Germany. How things have changed is incredible, instead of desperation we have an element of hope.
This programme started just with a conversation or maybe a dream of a better life for our equines, it exploded in to a phenomenal European Rehoming Programme which continues to go from strength to strength, it has not only opened the door for our own horses but we embrace the doors it has opened for many, many other rescue organisations.

2016, was our greatest year for rehoming horses, we have successfully placed way over 200 horses in their new homes. This has allowed us to save more horses than we could have ever dreamed of.
As our horses rest on route to their new homes, we have a sense of pride in what we have created, what we have done and what we have achieved. Our programme has become so strong, we recently made the decision to partner with an excellent UK transport company who have given us the opportunity to deliver our own horses, in a state of the art vehicle giving our horses the most comfortable journey possible to their new homes. Our dream and our own people, seeing our horses all the way home, something we have always wanted to do.
So we wave goodbye to our last 11 of 2016, we look forward to 2017 and breaking our rehoming record, further expanding our programme. We look forward to all the days where we wave goodbye to another load, the sigh of relief, when they arrive home safely and the days where the updates come.

Tonight, our little ones are resting on their journey home. They’ll snooze ,stretch, roll and play and tomorrow continue to their final destination.
Good Luck to Etana, Finn, Roger, Dreamer, Erin, Rosie, Baz, Orkan, Torin, Nero and Doodles. Those days you stood alone as your friends died around you are long gone, the future will be bright and the past just a distant memory, we’re very proud of you all and we’re privileged to have been part of your recovery and to have been able to give you a fresh start. Keep the rescue flag flying all the way across Europe boys and girls!

A massive thank you to all our German admins who dedicate so much of their time to help our Irish horses, we could not do it with out you.
Our drivers, Mandy and Tom, safe travelling!

Dog Cruelty – When will it end

Please Share and Help, don’t turn a blind eye tonight and don’t assume someone else will help.

Tonight we sit with tears in our eyes, shaking our heads in dismay, our hearts broken and our spirit crushed, wondering if we are fighting a losing battle, will anything ever change for these animals. Tonight we could express our anger in a million ways, but truthfully we are too upset to be angry and such a post will not help this beautiful girl who needs our help
This afternoon we happened among this little girl. She needed our help and we could not turn our back on her. What a pitiful sight she is, not much more than a pup but a life time of abuse she has led, neglected and left to suffer horrendously.

Covered from head to toe in mange, her skin is on fire, we couldn’t even imagine the pain it has caused her. Open and untreated wounds cover her frail little body, a look of desperation in her eyes.A computer cable wrapped tightly around her neck. It is beyond our comprehension how this girl could be left to suffer like this, how a so called owner could look at her each day and not even care. This little girl is painfully thin, weighing not even half of what she should, probably living on the bare minimum she needed to just survive. Is this a life for any dog? The sheer cruelty is just beyond belief, it’s just heartbreaking to see these innocent little ones subjected to this appalling treatment and sadly we won’t be able to change the world overnight but we will do our absolute best to change the world for this little girl.

She is currently undergoing intensive veterinary treatment, she spent today at our vets, where they have done their absolute best to make her more comfortable and begin her treatment.
We’d like to thank everyone who helped today, those who brought her to our attention and the ladies in the vets who vowed to do their best to help.
This little girl has a very long road to recovery but we are hopeful she will get there and we are more than willing to stay with her every step of the way, we’re also hoping the public will get behind her and do their best to support her, even a couple of euro will help towards her veterinary fees and care.
Tonight she is comfortable, lying in a bed of her own, exhausted and sleeping.
We’re hoping for a Christmas miracle.

Help us help them

Sunday is a day of rest, but as always for our HHO Animal welfare advisers and Carers it is a busy day.

So many horses, ponies and donkies to care for and also a long day on the road for 2 of our advisers who set sail on a 9 hour round trip to pick up a small family of donkeys who needed our help! No one could step forward to help these poor souls! Their owner, elderly, who fell ill couldn’t care for them anymore! Mommy, 27 years old and her 3 children 20, 14 and 15.
Help was asked for and doors were closed, but Everyone here in HHO knew they couldn’t close the door on these poor souls!

Boots where lost and socks are in the bin however the difficulties were overcome and the family of 4 were safely loaded! A lot of tenderness and care was needed as Mom hadn’t moved from her home in 20 years and her children had never left the security of the only pace they knew as home! They need lots of tlc and farrier care and mom needs expert donkey care but we are confident they will settle here with us in HHO and spend the rest of their days feeling secured and loved
This is why we are here… to help people who need support and animals who really need our help.
We need your support so we can help them.

The little family are tucked up in a big stable.
Their journey to a safe haven complete
